Icarus Reaches a Milestone

I’m so excited to announce that Icarus reached a milestone over this past weekend: 1,000 downloads! I can’t thank you enough for your time and support. It means more to me than you could possibly imagine.

Miller Brinkman’s story began back in 2010. I woke from a bizarre dream in the middle of the night, and I knew I had to get it down on paper before it faded away forever. I’d never written a book before, and had no idea how to even go about it, but I worked on it little by little every night for several months until the story was complete.

However, it took another six long years of edits and rewrites to shape the manuscript into something I could be proud of, and in January of 2017, Icarus was finally done. I hoped that Miller would find an audience, but I had realistic expectations.

As an independent author, I’m well-aware of the challenges that come with self-publishing, but I put my blood, sweat, and tears into it, and would’ve been happy even if only ten people ever read it. In passing the thousand-download milestone, Icarus has exceeded my wildest expectations, and I’m so grateful to everyone who has taken a chance on it. Sincerely, thank you.

So, what’s next? Hmm… you know, two thousand downloads has a real nice ring to it. 🙂

Icarus Blog Tour

Round up the roadies and notify catering, because Icarus is going on tour! Well, it’s a virtual tour you’ll be able to follow from the comfort of your own home, but don’t let that stop you from partying like a rock star with your bowl of green-only M&Ms.

Icarus will be making six stops on this tour, and I’ll be there for each one, lurking in the comments to chat with you. Want to learn more about the Noble universe? Want to ask me about my creative process? Want to yell at me for the death of a particular character? No question is off limits!

The tour begins Monday, May 29, 2017 and will continue through June. Here’s a complete schedule:

My sincerest thanks to all the lovely bloggers who’ll be hosting Icarus during this tour. I’d also like to thank Goddess Fish Promotions for setting it up. I hope you’ll all stop by to say hello during the tour, and I very much look forward to talking to you!

A Reading from The Invisible War

In honor of The Invisible War‘s release this weekend, I’ve prepared a short reading from the book. This excerpt is from an early chapter, and puts you right into the action!

Miller Brinkman and a pair of officers interrupt a murder in progress and chase the suspect into what they believe to be a dead end. They soon discover that this heinous killer has a few tricks up his sleeve.

The Invisible War Available Now

Miller Brinkman returns! The Invisible War is out now and available in both Kindle and paperback format.

This book was a real labor of love for me. After completing an early draft of Icarus, I thought it was a stand alone novel, and had no plans to continue the story. Then a good friend of mine read it and asked me a ton of questions about where I would take the story next.

I pondered these questions all that evening, and it got my creative juices flowing. It was then that I realized how much the Noble universe had left to explore. However, continuing the story meant making significant changes to Icarus, but it was absolutely worth the effort. I hope you’ll agree! 🙂

The Invisible War picks up about two years after the events of Icarus. Miller Brinkman has retired from his private investigator life and moved to Boston to pursue a career as a novelist. Unfortunately, things don’t work out as planned, and Miller begins consulting with the police department to make ends meet.

Shortly thereafter, a grisly murder leads to the biggest case of Miller’s life, and a job with the F.B.I. But as Miller’s journey into the future begins, he soon finds himself haunted by the ghosts of his past.

In celebration of today’s launch, please enjoy the free preview of The Invisible War below with my thanks.

War is Coming…

The wait is over! I’m thrilled to announce that the next installment in the Noble Trilogy will release on Friday, May 12, 2017. The Invisible War is coming to Kindle and paperback, and is available for preorder right now!

Haunted by the ghosts of a missing persons case that turned his life upside down, Miller Brinkman is doing everything in his power to escape the past. He’s exchanged his small-town digs for the big city of Boston, and his career as a private detective for the solitary life of a writer. One problem: his debut novel was a flop, and his savings are rapidly dwindling.

To make ends meet, Miller begins consulting for the police, but what starts out as an easy paycheck leads him straight into the biggest case of his life—and a job with the F.B.I. As he crisscrosses the globe, working to solve a series of gruesome murders and put together a puzzle that grows more complex by the minute, Miller’s past starts to catch up with him. Lucid dreams and unexplained visions have him questioning his own sanity, and a strange power is growing within him—but at what cost?

When an old nemesis returns, it sends the F.B.I., a group of serial killers, and two ancient, bloodthirsty adversaries on a collision course. Can Miller and his team of agents stop the murders and prevent a war that would wipe humanity off the planet?

Icarus Radio Spot

Since the story of Icarus takes place in the 1940s, somehow making a big fancy trailer didn’t seem appropriate. Instead, I’ve put together this little radio spot to capture the essence of the era. I hope you enjoy it!

What Readers Are Saying About Icarus

After two weeks on the market, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the reception Icarus is receiving. The book currently has a five-star average rating on Amazon, and many readers have taken the time to write me and share even more detailed thoughts. I love it!

Based on the feedback I’ve received, Miller Brinkman seems to have resonated with readers. His character has drawn multiple comparisons to Indiana Jones, which is flattering. Readers have also expressed their satisfaction with “the twist.” I can’t say anything more about it without spoiling the surprise, but needless to say, Icarus doesn’t finish the way you think it’s going to. 🙂

But, hey! Writing is all about showing versus telling, so here’s just a few of the comments readers have left about Icarus:

Thanks so much for stopping by, and if you haven’t read Icarus yet, check it out!

The Mystery Begins…

It’s official: Icarus is coming to Kindle and paperback on January 27th, 2017!

It’s the winter of 1947 in Ashley Falls, West Virginia, and a teenage girl has gone missing. Local private detective Miller Brinkman takes the case, quickly uncovering a string of bizarre clues. A hidden diary, cryptic riddles, and buried secrets all pique Miller’s interest, but one key detail gives him pause: the girl’s parents haven’t reported her disappearance to the authorities.

As the case deepens, Miller’s investigation begins to poke holes in the idyllic picture of his beloved hometown. No longer certain whether anyone in his community can be trusted, Miller dives headfirst into a desperate search for the truth that extends far beyond the borders of Ashley Falls. He soon discovers that his missing persons case is not an isolated incident, but part of an otherworldly mystery—one that, if confronted, may threaten the very future of humanity.
